Sigma Phi Epsilon is proud to share with you just some of our many areas of success as we return to Valpo. We have had an exciting summer filled with rewards for hard work and all kinds of career opportunities.

SigEp came out on top in several different areas last semester! After a successful year, our chapter was came first in the All-Greek and All Campus Intramural Championship! This is an excellent example of our commitment to a sound body. Indiana Zeta also came away with the Outstanding Public Relations, Outstanding Chapter Programming and President’s Award of Excellence at this year’s Greek Awards!

Indiana Zeta won two awards at Carlson Leadership Academy (SigEps leadership conference for chapter leaders) as well. The Scholarship Award is for maintaining the highest GPA on campus (as well as being above the All-Campus Average), and The Manpower Award for excellence in membership and recruitment at Valparaiso University. This award was based on our success in continuing to be top in recruitment among all fraternities.

The chapters stunning 2nd Place performance at Songfest, which won most crowd pleasing, was a great way to round out the semester.

Throughout the summer, numerous brothers held internships at a number of innovative companies. There were also brothers that spent the summer here at Valpo conducting research with professors. One brother in particular, Jon Ogland-Hand, had the opportunity to assist Professor Palumbo of the engineering department. The research conducted had to do with thermodynamics, and made great use of the newly constructed solar furnace on campus.

Brother Jon Ogland-Hand also had the chance to travel down to SigEps national headquarters for the Ruck Leadership Institute in Richmond, Virginia. The Frank J. Ruck Leadership Institute is an intense five-day event for SigEp’s top rising leaders. Participants are stretched both mentally and physically, and pushed to explore their potential. The result is that Ruck scholars learn about their leadership styles, and how to apply them to different situations.

At the end of July and beginning of August, seven of IN Zeta’s brothers had the opportunity to make a trip down to Dallas, Texas for five action packed days. During the award ceremony, our chapter received the Buchanan Outstanding Chapter Award. The Buchanan Cup represents superior and sustained achievement in our Fraternity and we are so proud to have received it this past summer.

At the end of the summer our chapter received even more amazing news! Our brother Marshall Miller was selected for SigEps National Board of Directors. The 9 National Directors are prominent in the business and professional world, or, in the case of the student directors, are exceptional campus leaders. They are selected because of their devotion to the Fraternity, their ability to lead, and a proven track record of setting and achieving strategic goals. We are honored to have one of our own brothers selected, and very proud of Marshall for his accomplishment.

Have another great semester!!
